Full Job Description
The Youth Support Service provides a wide range of services to support young people to achieve their potential and personal, social and economic success. Services include provision of youth work, youth participation, the development and provision of careers education, information, advice and guidance (IAG) and engagement and tracking. We are committed to working in collaboration with young people to ensure they have a voice. We pride ourselves on being a young person led service working alongside them and partners, to support them in achieving their aspirations and goals.
The Targeted Youth Advisor delivers support to a caseload of vulnerable young people and young adults up to age 25 (that will include those with SEND and Care Experienced), many with complex needs, removing barriers to their learning and employment and therefore improving their life chances. Their role is to provide high quality information, advice and guidance and transition support to these young people and those that support them, particularly on issues relating to education, employment, and training. The post holder will offer more intensive support to those who are disengaged or at risk of disengagement, to help them overcome barriers.
Working with schools and other education settings including training providers and colleges to support our most vulnerable young people to remain engaged and will act as advocates as appropriate.
You will work with multi-agency partners to help vulnerable young people remove barriers to reaching their potential and personal, social and economic success, and to prepare for adulthood.
Tenacious, proactive and approachable, you will be a qualified to a minimum of Level 4 in Information, Advice and Guidance and have experience in this role. You must be confident working on your own initiative, have excellent organisational skills and you will have sound advocacy and negotiation skills. Above all, you will have a genuine interest in working closely with young people to raise their aspirations and improve their lives.
Applicants qualified to Level 6 in careers guidance are highly desirable, but we will consider applicants with suitable experience that are qualified to at least NVQ4 in learning, development and support services/IAG or hold the Diploma in Career Guidance and Development. There will be an expectation that if you hold a relevant Level 4 qualification that you will be supported to undertake the Level 6 qualification.
You will require access to a car to be able to perform these duties and travel across Central Bedfordshire and neighbouring areas.
