What you'll be doing
At Babcock, Systems Engineering is the glue that holds complex projects together. Over the course of this 12-week summer internship, you'll gain exposure to a range of engineering challenges, from defence engineering to complex nuclear projects. You'll be at the centre of some of the UK's most advanced engineering programmes - applying systems engineering principles to ensure that every component, process and stakeholder aligns to deliver safe, effective and sustainable solutions.
You'll apply your academic knowledge to real-world scenarios, contributing to meaningful projects and working alongside experienced professionals.
Expect to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support the delivery of engineering solutions that help ensure the safety and effectiveness of the UK's submarine fleet.
What you'll get out of it
Our internships are about more than work experience - they're an opportunity to immerse yourself in life at Babcock, form meaningful connections, and develop skills that will set you up for your future career. You'll work alongside supportive colleagues and gain guidance from experienced professionals every step of the way.
We value the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that interns bring to our team. We believe you have the potential to shape the future of our business. We also understand that this internship is as much about you assessing what's right for you as it is about us getting to know you. Perform well, and you could be considered for a position on our graduate programme - your journey with Babcock could just be getting started.
What you'll need
- You must be studying an undergraduate degree in one of the following STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) disciplines: Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Bio engineering, Biochemistry, Aero, Maritime, Marine, Electrical, Electronic, Constructive, Civil, Computer Science, System Design, Interface, Integration, Lifecycle.
- Many of our programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which programmes you are eligible for. For this programme, you must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), Security Check (SC), Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI), Private Security Authority (PSA) and atomic clearance. For further details, visit GOV.UK and search 'United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels'.
