Systems Design Engineer - SCADALocation: Ashby de la zouch, UK (Hybrid/Office & Site-Based)
Outside IR35Contract Duration: 12 MonthsAbout the RoleWe are seeking a skilled and motivated Systems Design Engineer with strong SCADA system engineering expertise to join our rail infrastructure team. This role will focus on requirements definition, system architecture, and interface design, supporting the delivery of complex and safety-critical rail systems.You will play a key role across the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture through to design, integration, and commissioning, ensuring robust and scalable solutions are delivered.Key Responsibilities
Requirements EngineeringLead the elicitation, capture, and analysis of system-level requirements from stakeholdersDevelop high-quality, testable, and traceable requirements aligned with operational and regulatory needsMaintain requirements traceability throughout the system lifecycleConduct and lead requirements reviews, ensuring completeness, consistency, and clarityManage requirements change control in a structured and auditable mannerSystem Design & ArchitectureLead and contribute to outline and detailed design phases of SCADA systemsDevelop system architectures aligned to operational, safety, and performance requirementsEnsure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standardsProduce and review key design artefacts, including:System architecture documentationFunctional specificationsDesign descriptionsEngineering calculations (as required)Support design assurance and formal review processesInterface & Integration EngineeringDefine and document system
interfaces (internal and external), including data flows, protocols, and integration pointsDevelop Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and relevant data modelsEnsure compatibility and consistency across subsystem interfacesCollaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to resolve interface issues and integration risksSupport integration, testing, and commissioning activities related to interfacesAbout YouStrong experience in SCADA systems engineering, ideally within rail or infrastructure projectsProven expertise in requirements engineering, system architecture, and interface designExperience producing technical documentation and design artefacts to a high standardSolid understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes and assurance practicesExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsDesirableExperience within rail systems or other safety-critical environmentsKnowledge of integration of legacy (brownfield) and new systemsFamiliarity with industry standards and best
