The Surgical Education Simulation Fellow will deliver high quality, evidence based immersive and procedural simulation based education with a focus on surgical specialties. The post holder will maintain clinical currency and a portfolio of practice relevant to their surgical area of expertise, while contributing as a key member of the UHB Simulation Faculty and the wider Clinical Education service to ensure consistent delivery of high standards in educational practice. This unique role provides an excellent opportunity for surgical trainees to develop and enhance their skills as medical educators within simulation based learning. Working closely with the Clinical Skills and Simulation team and the General Surgery Department, the post holder will support the design, delivery, and evaluation of simulation programmes. Professional development relevant to the role will be supported and undertaken as part of the role.Main duties of the job -To work collaboratively with the Clinical Service Lead for Clinical Skills and Simulation to develop a strategy for UHB that uses high fidelity simulation-based education to embed patient safety and human factors awareness throughout educational programmes. -To contribute to trust wide laparoscopic surgical programmes ensuring a equitable, quality assured offer across all sites. -To contribute to the development of new speciality programmes being developed as a part of the trust wide surgical training recovery plan. -To work with the key educational leads to promote and support the development of inter-disciplinary approaches to simulation-based education. -To act as an expert simulation resource to the Trust advising on the most appropriate use of technology to enhance educational interventions for the desired quality, safety and patient experience outcomes. -To develop and direct a multi-professional faculty responsible for the provision of cross-specialty simulation based education. -To work collaboratively with the Clinical Service Lead for Clinical Skills and Simulation to devise and implement technology enhanced training curricula which meet the requirements of the commissioning institutions and further the Trust reputation as a major clinical teaching provider., To foster a culture of active research and to contribute to the current evidence base, evaluating how technological approaches to learning can continuously improve patient care, though individual and team performance. -Alongside the Clinical Skills and Simulation Service Lead, identify the opportunities for collaborative work in the region to strengthen the simulation activity leading to effective workforce development plans. -To represent the trusts simulation service on regional, national and international forums, taking active role in marketing the UHB brand as a leader in care, clinical excellence and education. -To contribute to the development of a 24/7 educational offer from surgical simulation education. -Support the core surgical high fidelity simulation programmes run across the trust offering surgical specialist knowledge and experience to advise on the maintance and development of programmes. -Support the delivery of Core acute procedural skills for both our surgical & multidisciplinary trainees.

  • Significant surgical experience (at least 2 years post foundation level)
  • Hold MRCS Qualification
  • Evidence of achievement of foundation competencies in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Postgraduate Educational Qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate educational delivery
  • Experience of teaching in a multi-professional setting, Evidence of theoretical and practical skills in Medical Education/Immersive simulation
  • Evidence of on-going and relevant additional professional development activities.
  • Completion of additional qualifications; ALS, APLS, ATLS
