Job Introduction

Please note: We cannot offer sponsorship for this position. Do you have a naturally caring way about you? Do you love the idea of making a real difference in someone’s day? Are you looking for a role where no two days ever feel the same? Are you happy to work flexibly? Can you imagine supporting adults who genuinely rely on your help? If you're nodding along, we'd be delighted to hear from you.

At Turning Point, we're passionate about supporting people with Learning Disabilities across England. As a Support Worker, you'll play a meaningful part in helping people build their independence and enjoy richer, more fulfilling lives. And while you're supporting others, you'll also have the chance to grow your own skills, confidence, and career through our training and development opportunities.

Where will I be working?

You'll be joining one of our 24-hour supported living services for adults with Learning Disabilities. The people we support have a range of needs including complex Learning Disabilities, Autism, health needs, and physical disabilities. Some individuals are non-verbal, and others require higher levels of personal care and manual handling/hoisting, so this is a very hands-on role. We work closely with families and aim to create a warm, positive circle of support.

Everything we do is person-centred from daily activities and shopping, to cooking, managing budgets, and helping people enjoy the things that matter to them. Our goal is always to help each person live as independently as possible.

Please note: You must be a driver to be considered for this role.

Shift Patterns

Because this is a 24-hour service, flexibility is really important. Shifts typically include:

  • Early shifts (7:00/8:00 am – 2:00/3:00 pm)

  • Late shifts (2:00/3:00 pm – 9:00/10:00 pm)

  • Sleep-ins or waking nights

  • Some weekend work

Hours may vary slightly depending on the service.

Role Responsibilities

Every day is different, but your role will include:

  • Encouraging and promoting independence

  • Supporting daily activities such as personal intimate care, eating and drinking, and general home routines

  • PEG feeding/flushing

  • Following guidance from Health Professionals around eating, drinking, behaviour, and mobility

  • Helping people stay safe through positive risk assessments

  • Manual handling and hoisting

  • Supporting with medication, including creams and lotions

  • Keeping accurate records using our digital recording system

The Ideal Candidate

What skills and qualities do I need? You don't need previous experience with Learning Disabilities or complex needs—we support you with training. What matters most is that you are:

  • Passionate, caring, and enthusiastic

  • Patient, flexible, and non-judgemental

  • A positive team player with plenty of energy

  • A good communicator

  • Able to manage the physical aspects of the role, including manual handling

  • Experienced in supporting people with anxiety (transferable experience is welcome)
