Full Job Description

The role is within Shelter, but you will also be part of Sheffield City Council's HALT team which is multi-agency and works to support people sleeping rough who have drug and alcohol dependence needs. You will work to help people to settle and sustain their homes, support them to access and maintain engagement with substance treatment services. Making sure that Shelter is central to local systems change for people experiencing multiple disadvantages will be a key part of the role, representing Shelter at multi meetings and panels as well as monitoring impact and outcome to report to our funders.

Do you have a good understanding of the needs of people who are sleeping rough and are affected by substance misuse? Then join Shelter as a Support Worker and you could soon be playing a vital role aimed at minimising the impact of bad housing, homelessness and exclusion in the Sheffield area., You will have a sound understanding of support and housing issues and experience of working with people with multiple disadvantage. You also have knowledge of safeguarding frameworks, drug and alcohol use and treatment and pathways and experience of working with multiple agencies to support people. As the role will require you to visit people in their homes you will need a full valid driving licence and access to a car for work purposes.

Sheffield Hub has been established for over 25 years and provides support to over 5000 people a year across the city. We work to improve the underlying systems that cause homelessness and housing problems, offering a range of help to people in the community, tailored to their needs. The team are around 70 strong, plus an invaluable team of volunteers.
