Support Worker Job description
We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable Personal Assistant to support a young man living in the Gilberdyke area, who is keen to build a positive and trusting relationship with the right person.
The role is for 6 hours per week during term time and 12 hours per week during the holidays. £14.50 per hour if employed / £19.00 per hour if self employed.
He is a wheelchair user and has access to his own adapted vehicle, which can be used for trips out and about in the community.
He has some speech and is able to communicate his wants and needs well.
He requires full support with personal care, as he wears pads full time, so we are looking for someone who is confident, respectful and compassionate in this area. He also takes regular medication, which would need to be administered when out at certain times.
This role would suit someone who is caring, understanding and enjoys building meaningful one-to-one relationships.
- Support and encouragement with activities of interest, ensure his safety at all times during your working period and support and encouragement to try new activities to improve His confidence and abilities.
- Become a friend and engage in conversation.
- SEND experience.
- Knowledge/experience with challenging behaviour.
- A full driving license and confident driving a big van (vehicle provided).
- Caring honest responsible and patient and all characteristics we require to help with this young mans care.
- Reliable with time keeping and communication with parents.
- Able to understand confidentiality and be aware of privacy. An ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. A love of the outdoors.
- Understanding of sensory issues.
- Previous PA experience with children/adults with learning difficulties and behavioural difficulties is preferable.
