Support Worker

Job summary


Tennyson Lodge is a vibrant and busy day centre providing support for adults with a Learning Disability, where they participate in fun and engaging activities to empower them to maintain their independence, skills, and well-being. The centre is open from 9am-4pm Monday to Friday. The role will include promoting life skills development, and providing planned activities, you will need to have commitment and enthusiasm towards working with people with a disability. Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. You will report to the Senior Support Workers and Team Leader to ensure the day service is working towards its vision. You will work within a team to work towards service user outcomes, building on their existing skills and abilities whilst respecting individual needs and choices. This includes supporting and, on occasions, delivering sessions in line with the session plan, this may be in the building and in the community. The role includes completing personal care and administering medication, as required. You will be using IT to update documents such as support plans, risk assessments and will have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and assessments of capacity. The starting pay for the posts is £12.85 per hour. The working hours for Tennyson Lodge are 8.50am-4pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; on a Monday it is 8.50am-5pm. The hours are subject to change depending on service need. You will be completing a comprehensive training program and benefit from excellent career development opportunities as well as being part of a supportive team committed to delivering an excellent service for adults with disabilities. As this role is part time, it does not meet the salary requirements to offer sponsorship.



Main duties of the job


You will need to have a proficient level of written and spoken English for the purposes of case recording and will already hold a level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as IT skills. You will be able to demonstrate commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion principles and anti-discriminatory practice. A good understanding of equal opportunities, person centred approach and diversity are all essential. Sometimes you will be lone working but will also work as part of the team in group activities. We offer excellent training and development opportunities, and so you will also need the commitment to complete training and further qualifications and to learn new skills whilst working alongside a supportive team.
