Gibside School is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. Staff, parents, and governors all work in partnership to ensure pupils thrive socially, emotionally, and educationally during their time with us. We work with around 200 children, aged 3 to 11 from across the whole borough of Gateshead. The children have a wide range of needs including autistic spectrum condition (ASC), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD). Our aim is to inspire, motivate and challenge all of our children and to build confident, cooperative, independent learners.

Our teaching assistants are vital to our children in school and will build amazing relationships with our children. They need to be emotionally resilient, non-judgemental and quick thinking, while adapting their responses to behaviours. They can work independently but also as part of a team and are able to be patient and understanding of communication needs. You may have similar experience from the care sector, residential support work or even through personal experience supporting family members. We will provide training, mentoring support and where possible a pathway through appropriate Teaching Assistant qualifications. Of course, if you are a qualified Teaching Assistant with experience, we would also love to hear from you.

If you are successful, you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure. This post may require a declaration under the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2009. Salary amounts quoted are from the 1 September to 31 August therefore, if you commence employment part way through the academic year, they are subject to an equated salary adjustment.
