The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role., The Manchester School of Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable student assistant to support the delivery of its Summer School production of Matilda Jr. for young people aged 5-16. Working alongside the Summer School team, you will help create a safe, positive and engaging environment for participants throughout the week. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in theatre education, youth arts participation, community engagement, teaching, stage management, production support, or arts administration. Duties may include:

  • Assisting with the registration and sign-in/sign-out of participants each day.
  • Supporting workshop activities, rehearsals and creative sessions.
  • Supervising participants during breaks, lunch periods and transitions between spaces.
  • Helping with safeguarding procedures and ensuring the wellbeing of all participants.
  • Supporting the delivery team with organisation, classroom management and pastoral care.
  • Assisting with costume, props and rehearsal requirements as needed.
  • Helping to prepare spaces before sessions and restore them afterwards.
  • Supporting the technical and front-of-house arrangements for the final performance.
  • Acting as a positive role model and ambassador for the Manchester School of Theatre and Manchester Met., Approximately 10am-5pm daily, with additional support required for the final performance on Friday evening until 7.15pm, Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to supporting the rights, responsibilities, dignity, health and wellbeing of staff and students through our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

    Successful applicants should be confident working with children and young people, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and be reliable, professional and enthusiastic. Experience of theatre, performance, education, youth work or event support is desirable but not essential., This role is only open to current Manchester Met students who meet the following requirements:
  • Be available for the full duration of the Summer School and final performance
  • Have the right to work in the UK and be based in the UK for the duration of the role
  • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism and excellent timekeeping
  • Be confident communicating with children, young people, parents/carers and staff
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team in a busy and dynamic environment
  • Have an interest in theatre, performance, arts education, community engagement or working with young people
  • Be willing to undertake any required safeguarding and health and safety training prior to the start of the project
  • Desirable:
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Experience of theatre, performance, stage management, workshop facilitation or event support
  • A proactive and positive approach to problem-solving and participant support
