Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a dynamic surgeon with a sub-specialist interest in knee surgery. Electively the role is split between provision of knee (full and partial) arthroplasty and soft tissue surgery. From a trauma point of view the successful candidate is expected to competently manage periprosthetic fractures around the knee and also ligamentous injury

The outpatient service for this service is a multidisciplinary clinic with input from physiotherapy, podiatry, radiology and sports and exercise medicine consultants and registrars. This service has grown over the past 24 months and the work associated with these clinics has led to a greater demand for our services.

Main duties of the job

Within a 10 PA job plan, the post will be based primarily at Homerton University Hospital and the post-holder will have the following core responsibilities:

Soft tissue knee surgery, including osteotomies around the knee. Any prior experience with patella-femoral pathologies /Pediatric / adolescent knee surgery will be an advantage

Support the provision of high volume Knee arthroplasty with expected provision of partial knee and complex primary knee replacement

Support the development of the robotic knee replacement service and fellowship level training is desirable in either a robotic or navigated knee platform.

General trauma provision at a DGH but subspecialty knee competence is essential for 1) peri-prosthetic+ intra-articular fractures 2) Acute ligamentous injury in both the paediatric and adult population

Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has 500 beds providing acute and community health services for Hackney, The City and surrounding communities and also provides a range of specialist services for a much wider population.

We provide general hospital and community services to Hackney and the City of London, and specialist care in obstetrics, neonatology, foetal medicine, fertility, bariatric surgery and neuro rehabilitation across east London and beyond.

It has a long-standing relationship with its local GPs within the City & Hackney Partnership. Joint-working has led to a number of initiatives across a range of specialities with a focus on improving the integration and quality of services and remains a major trust priority
