Are you hardworking, organised and passionate about university education and the opportunities it can offer young people?, The Newcastle University UK Recruitment Team develops, leads and delivers a range of exciting events and activities designed to encourage young people from across the UK to consider university and to give them a taste of what life is like as an undergraduate student at Newcastle University. As a Student Recruitment Co-Ordinator, you'll enjoy a varied role - in a typical week you might travel to another UK city to deliver an inspiring talk to students currently considering their options for life after school or college, plan and organise the logistics of an on-campus event, create engaging presentations or work with colleagues from across the University on large scale projects such as residential summer schools or Clearing. PARTNERS Programme A key element of this role will be working as part of the team that delivers the Newcastle University supported entry route(PARTNERS); delivering PARTNERS specific recruitment events and activities throughout the year as well as leading and supporting elements of the PARTNERS application process. You will also play an integral part of the organisation and delivery of the residential Year 13 PARTNERS Academic Summer School (PASS) which takes place annually in July. Event planning and delivery You will be involved in the organisation and delivery of on campus and virtual events for prospective students. As well as planning events, you'll also coordinate teams of Student Ambassadors, as well as other members of the UK Recruitment Team to deliver them successfully. You'll present to large audiences of students, parents/carers and teachers, manage event budgets and carry out comprehensive evaluation, including the preparation of reports. You will also support other University events and activities as required such as Open Days and Confirmation and Clearing. Partnership working Alongside the Student Recruitment Manager, you will support and coordinate key activity associated with the Access element of the University's Access and Participation Plan which includes specific projects including Westgate Hill and Insight 2Uni mentoring., You must hold a full, clean driving license at the time of interview and if successful will be required to complete health surveillance and driver declaration. The willingness to work some weekends and outside of normal office hours is required. You should be able and willing to occasionally drive to events and school/college visits around the UK and to stay overnight when required. Hire cars are provided for travel. The UK Recruitment Team currently work flexibly. This role is full time (37 hours) and you will work in the office at least 3 days per week with the option to work the other 2 days at home (if travelling and activity delivery allows)., 1. With support from the Student Recruitment Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of on-campus events and activities for young people from schools and colleges across the UK. This will include:
- + Organisation and delivery of events and activities. + Development and delivery of presentations and workshops in schools/colleges to a range of audiences including potential applicants, parents/carers and school staff. + Lead staff training to ensure quality control and ongoing quality improvement, including overseeing the recruitment, selection, training and management of over 100 Student Ambassadors, mentors and students reps on an annual basis to support these events. + Contribute to the ongoing evaluation of all events and activities, to evaluate the impact, appropriateness, effectiveness and impact for the target audience/s. Prepare relevant evaluation reports to ensure continuous improvement of activity. + Attend school and college visits throughout the UK to deliver activities, presentations and other appropriate outreach and awareness-raising sessions in schools/colleges. 2. Support the Student Recruitment Manager to lead the team to deliver the Newcastle University PARTNERS Programme including the development, organisation and delivery of the annual Year 13 residential PARTNERS Academic Summer School activities. This will include liaison with internal and external event stakeholders; organisation of information evenings for pupils and parents; recruitment, selection and training of student reps, ambassadors and interns; assessing applicants eligibility; organisation of social activities; arrangements for catering and student accommodation; co-ordination and implementation of appropriate procedures to ensure the health and safety of participating students and staff; organisation and delivery of follow-up activities; forecasting and monitoring of budgets and preparing reports. 3. Where appropriate, line management responsibility for members of the Support Team, managing and overseeing the workload of team members, co-ordinating regular update meetings to review progress against agreed aims and objectives, and to ensure effective workflow across the team. Carrying out annual Performance and Development Reviews (PDR) for members of staff, as well as recording annual leave and sickness. 4. Organise and deliver aspects of collaboratively run projects and events. This may include contributing to the development and delivery of conferences and events for target groups such as looked after young people,disabled students, parents and teachers. 5. Support for national student recruitment activity. This could include leading on the organisation of student guides for the Autumn and Summer University Open Days (including the recruitment and training of student guides, allocation of roles and monitoring of student performance and attendance to ensure quality of delivery), the lead organisation of pre-application campus tours. 6. Support the representation of the University at a range of Higher Education recruitment events throughout the UK including large undergraduate Higher Education conventions, smaller recruitment and careers events in individual schools and colleges, and other recruitment events as may be identified during the course of the year. 7. Develop and produce appropriate recruitment-related publicity / marketing information (print, web-based and new media) to raise the profile of the University and its activities among target audiences.
You will have experience of event planning and organisation, developing and delivering presentations, working as part of a team and managing a complex workload. You will be a flexible, adaptable problem solver who is capable of thinking on your feet. - Receive Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Desirable
- Web authoring and print production skills
- An awareness of the UCAS application system and recruitment and admission cycle for university students
