Full Job Description
Student HVs contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
- Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible
- Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary
- Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services
- Being open and transparent about their own practice
- Supervising the work of others
- Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made
- Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
- Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records
- Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements. The NMC plays an important role in safeguarding the public by regulating the work of nurses and all nurses, including Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor), are expected to register with the NMC each year and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
Applicants must be registered nurses/midwives with current registration and an interest in addressing the health needs of children and families. The course is at Level 7 (Master's Degree); see person specification for application requirements. Applicants must be able to use public transport to travel to and from work and during the course of their working day., If you are enthusiastic and highly motivated to develop your skills in working with children and families in the community we would love to hear from you.
Student SCPHN Health Visitor | Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust
Courses commence in September 2026 and are offered on a full-time basis. Please indicate on your application if you have commenced the course previously at any university and the reason you did not complete it. You will be given a fixed term one year full-time contract to undertake a PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course (Health Visiting) at Kings College London University. Sponsorship will be paid at a Band 5 salary. The course commences September 2026 to be completed by September 2027. It is a full calendar year, consisting of 50% academic study and 50% in practice (start dates to be confirmed by the University). The practice placements will be situated across Camden. This is a development post, building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies as a nurse/midwife to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification and a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
