Full Job Description

Are you ready for an amazing opportunity? Do you want to make a difference to children, young people and families in Cornwall. We are very excited to announce that we have Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Student Health Visitor training posts available for applications starting in September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for a fully funded training programme to qualify as a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor). Open to all qualified Nurses and Midwives registered with the NMC. We provide supportive placements with allocated practice teachers and supervisors to support your learning journey., Please note that the locations for this role are: St Austell, Newquay or Bodmin

We deliver Health Visiting and School Nursing services across six localities within Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, covering a diverse geography from the Devon border including Bude, Launceston and Liskeard, through to Helston and Penzance.

We provide an evidencebased, familycentred public health service, focused on identifying health needs, inequality and vulnerability within families and communities.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a supportive and forwardthinking service. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to meet the needs of local communities and improve outcomes for children and young people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The course embraces a family/child/workplace-centred public health role with individuals, families, and populations, and focuses on improving health and tackling health inequalities. The approach requires you to work within a dynamic socio-cultural and service provision context across traditional boundaries, to network and develop services in partnership with service users, other professionals, and the voluntary sector. You'll learn to lead, assess, work collaboratively, evaluate public health provision, and accept responsibility and accountability for the safe, effective, and efficient management of that provision.

We offer a supportive supervision framework where you will be supported with your clinical caseload management, safeguarding children supervision and clinical restorative supervision.

We offer a clear and supported career pathway and are committed to developing our own workforce, supporting staff to progress and grow within the service.

Cornwall Councils ambition is to be an employer of choice, a high performing Council and a learning organisation. We commit to providing a reward and benefits package to attract, motivate and reward our employees. We offer a range of flexible working options to our staff. a generous annual leave entitlement with the potential to purchase additional leave.

A national award-winning employee health and wellbeing programme
