Full Job Description
This role will be based on the university campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Do you have experience of managing complex events and activities to deliver an exceptional experience? Can you collaborate effectively with partners, lead and motivate colleagues, and inspire and support students to get the most out of their time at Leeds?
You will contribute to the delivery of year-round events, activities and services which help students thrive at Leeds. The Student Experience area is a passionate and ambitious University team that supports 40,000-plus students to settle in and to make the most of their time at Leeds. The University is committed to ensuring that all students and staff feel that that they belong to an inclusive global community, and that all students feel supported and inspired to get the most out of being at an international University. In Student Experience we work in partnership with colleagues and students across campus to provide information and support, year-round welcome, orientation, wellbeing and community building activities for all students. With a focus also on international student experiences; helping them prepare for life in Leeds and the UK, settle in, make friends, access support and enjoy studying in Leeds.
We are looking for an organised, adaptable and student-focussed individual to lead the delivery of key events and activities throughout the year, and to contribute to developing future plans in response to internal and external changes. As well as managing events and activities you will play a key role in service planning and decision making. This role will require you to work with colleagues across the University to ensure our activities are compliant with policies related to health & safety, food hygiene, GDPR and financial regulations. You will need to be passionate about delivering great customer service, community building and working interculturally. You will have excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work flexibly (particularly during peak periods), inclusively and collaboratively with a wide range of staff, students and partners.
In addition to having managed complex events or projects, you will need to have experience of forecasting and managing budgets and using purchasing processes; and managing or supervising staff, including those who do not directly report to you. This role requires some out of hours working. This will include early shifts, late shifts and weekend working, with the potential for up to 10 consecutive days during the arrivals and welcome period in September; shorter periods of working these hours during the January and Summer arrival and welcome periods; and evening working on a rota basis on Mondays and for some other events during the year.
o 26 days holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) - That's 42 days a year!
o Generous pension scheme options plus life assurance
o Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our state-of-the-art Campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
o Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team.
o Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes are also available.
And much more!
