You must have graduated from an undergraduate course from Manchester Met in June 2025 to apply. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from current or previous postgraduate students. Background We're looking to recruit a Student Communications and Events Coordinator to join the Student Experience (Communications) and Training and Development teams in Doctoral Services. You will undertake a central role in supporting the flow of communications between the Doctoral College and our doctoral students and supervisors, as well as the delivery of training and development events and social media content during the welcome period for new students joining in October 2026. You will be working closely with our Research Degrees Officer (Student Experience), Development and Training Manager and Support Administrator to support the creation and delivery of key messages across various communications platforms, sent from the Doctoral College., Communications are key to the day-to-day running of the Doctoral College and maintaining good relationships with our stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to support all teams within Doctoral Services, producing key items of communications which will be shared with students, supervisors, and members of the College's senior leadership team. You will develop an understanding of key communications platforms such as Granicus for email bulletins, WordPress for blogs, and social media platforms. You'll also have the opportunity to network and collaborate with colleagues within the wider Research and Innovation Directorate and in communications teams across professional services. You will specifically act as communications and events support during the lead up to the October 2026 welcome period, which consists of activities planned to welcome new doctoral students. This will include email communications, planning content for the Doctoral College's Instagram and X, and supporting key welcome events on the day. This internship represents an exciting opportunity to play a central and visible role in supporting the communications of Doctoral Services at a time of development and growth, as well as shaping communications plans for the coming academic year, including social media and regular email communications., By the end of the internship, the Student Communications and Events Coordinator will have helped shape social media content and communications plans for the October 2026 welcome period and 2026/2027 academic year, which will engage and grow various target audiences. They will have participated in the planning of major welcome events, and supported major communications campaigns across the Doctoral College. The output from this internship will be fundamental in increasing student engagement with Doctoral Services, especially with content targeted at new students joining in October 2026. Key Tasks
- Collecting and drafting content for student bulletins and welcome emails using Granicus software.
- Planning and producing social media content for the Doctoral College's Instagram and X accounts to help grow and engage our audience.
- Scheduling content for the Doctoral Research Blog.
- Producing 'welcome' communications for new doctoral students joining in October 2026.
- Using Outlook to send regular email communications to doctoral students and supervisors.
- Supporting the Training and Development team in delivering in-person welcome events to new doctoral students joining in October 2026., In this role, the graduate would be expected to improve/develop the following skills and undertake the following tasks:
- Work alongside senior academic and professional services colleagues to develop a clear understanding of the communications needs, patterns, and preferences of our stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with the Research Degrees Officer (Student Experience) to produce a social media content plan for the upcoming welcome period and academic year.
- Work closely with the Development and Training Manager to support the administration and delivery of key welcome events.
- Create and gather content for main communications channels, including the Doctoral Student Digest and social media.
- Develop skills in communication, event organisation and content management
- Become a confident communicator across varying levels of seniority., It is expected that the assessment centre will consist of:
