Full Job Description

Full time permanent stud vet. An opportunity to develop strong working relationships with individual studs and become a trusted partner in optimising their health, fertility, and performance. You will work with large thoroughbred and sport horse studs, along with stallion centres, with support from a senior stud vet, an experienced stud team, and specialists from the hospital. The role will include first-opinion ambulatory practice, including routine calls and emergencies, with the freedom to explore your own areas of interest. There will be opportunities for hospital-based work-ups, with support from the hospital team, and following up your own cases is encouraged. Opportunities to pursue postgraduate qualifications and certificates are also encouraged.

Seasonal position January 2027 to July 2027. The main duties of the role include all routine tasks associated with stud medicine in both Thoroughbred and Sports Horse populations including embryo flushing and barren mare work up.

At Fyrnwy, we pride ourselves on a collaborative and supportive team approach. Our stud team works closely with the wider hospital team, drawing on the knowledge and expertise of colleagues across all areas of the practice. We encourage open communication, shared decision-making and a willingness to support one another, ensuring that both our clients and their horses receive the highest standard of care. We value individual strengths and interests, while working together as one team to provide a comprehensive service to our clients.

Fyrnwy Equine Hospital is a well-established 18 vet practice with a Tier 3 equine hospital and ambulatory branch, covering Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales. The practice consists of European boarded specialists in surgery and medicine, as well as 3 equine nurses, 1 student vet nurse and 11 support staff members. As a practice we manage a mix of National Hunt Thoroughbred studs and Sports horse clients as well as some individual breeders.

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic team player dedicated to maintaining good client relations and applying equine care to a high standard.

Candidates must be registered with the RCVS and eligible to work in the UK.

The hospital has state of the art facilities including full surgical suite, MRI, portable DR's, ultrasound machines, gastroscopy, endoscopy, surgical laser, therapeutic laser and dental power tools.

You will partake in an equal share of the out of hours rota which is currently 1 in 7 with a second vet on call each week night and a separate stud rota for weekends. A day off in lieu is allocated for working a weekend. We will provide company vehicle, phone, tablet, VDS membership, RCVS membership and BEVA membership. There is a generous CPD allowance, workplace pension scheme and healthcare.
