Make a difference to the citizens of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with their health and wellbeing,
Join us to deliver the stop smoking service with a key focus on delivering a secondary care treatment programme for tobacco addiction.
The CURE Project across UHL is part of the NHS Long Term Plan, working to prevent illnesses that develop because of smoking. The CURE project uses a systematic approach to identify all smokers admitted to hospital, provide them with appropriate pharmacotherapy and behavioural support and then referral to onward care from stop smoking support in the community.
We have a full-time, permanent contract position working 37 hours per week. You'll be able to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends by agreement, to provide sessions to meet service user needs. You'll work across the 3 hospital sites - Glenfield Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital.
What you'll be doing
As a key part of the Acute CURE team, you'll work predominantly in hospital wards to offer behavioural change support and pharmacotherapy to inpatients who have a tobacco addiction. You'll manage a caseload of clients and monitor their progress, as well as make further referrals to other services to support clients to enhance their health and wellbeing. This will include planning and delivering treatment sessions, using motivational interviewing techniques, and providing clients with tools to help them with stopping smoking.
With previous experience of supporting individuals to change their behaviour and helping them to facilitate these changes, you'll understand the impact of smoking on an individual's health. You'll have completed the NCSCT (National Centre for Smoking Cessation & Training) Knowledge and Skills programme OR be willing to complete this within 1 month of commencement in the post. Using excellent verbal and written communication skills, you'll be able to listen actively, provide clear explanations and clinical advice to patients and health professionals. You'll be able to engage, influence and persuade others, whilst motivating them to make a change and stop smoking. As a proficient IT user, you'll be able to confidently maintain accurate records on the client record management systems. Self -motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate, you'll be dedicated to the stop smoking agenda to achieve the best outcomes.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.
