UNLOCK YOUR BEST WORK LIFE + make a difference for every patient A Sterile Services Assistant is an integral part of the team responsible for cleaning, decontaminating and sterilising medical equipment. You will work to support our Sterile Services Department Manager, in the provision of a safe and effective decontamination and sterile supplies service to all departments within the hospital. This will include ensuring that every medical device is prepared fit for the purpose prior to patient use and undertaking tasks involved with the decontamination process i.e. cleaning, checking, packing, assembling, sterilising and distribution of medical devices. This role will be working 37.5 hours a week over - With shifts being 7.30am - 3.30pm and 10:00am - 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 2 in 4 Saturday shifts as a one on one off basis. To hear more about our Barlborogh hospital please watch the video below: Main duties of the job As a sterile services assistant you will support the department in the provision of a safe and effective decontamination and sterile supplies service to all other departments within the hospital. To ensure that every medical device is prepared fit for the purpose prior to patient use. You will undertake tasks involved with the decontamination process i.e. cleaning, checking, packing, assembling, sterilising and distribution of medical devices. To keep areas clean and tidy: maintain a safe and pleasant environment and assist with the smooth running of the Sterile Service Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Participate in all duties in accordance with departmental work schedules i.e. cleaning, checking, assembling, packing, sterilisation and distribution.
- To report all defects identified in theatre trays and instruments to the TSSU manager.
- To ensure that all relevant daily validation testing is undertaken and recorded on the appropriate documentation in compliance with local policies and procedures, or delegate this to an appropriately trained member of the team.
- To be responsible for identifying and checking all returned instruments and equipment as specified on the tray specification sheet
- To undertake quality checks for cleanliness and completeness of equipment before distribution

This role would be a great first post within a healthcare setting for someone with little to no experience, who has excellent communication skills and an interested in the procedures relating to sterile services. All you need is: - Experience working as a Sterile service technician or a TSSU department
- A willingness to learn
- comfortable working within a team environment
- Good standard of written and spoken English
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- You have your Hepatitis B and TB vaccination or willing to get them, This is a requirement for the role
