Full Job Description

Are you a qualified teacher with experience in theatre and stage management? We are seeking an enthusiastic tutor to support adults in developing practical skills, confidence, and industry knowledge as they begin their theatre careers. The Drama department delivers two Stage Management and Technical Theatre courses each year:

  • Term 1 (October-December): a non-accredited course introducing stage management and technical theatre, culminating in students supporting a full drama production with four public performances.
  • Terms 2 and 3 (January-June): an accredited Level 3 Award (Open College Network London), where students develop their skills while supporting two productions.
  • Working alongside the Stage Management and Technical Theatre Tutor and Theatre Manager, you will teach stage management disciplines including Deputy Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, Costume, and Set Design. As well as delivering high-quality teaching, you will contribute to course planning and development, working closely with the lead tutor to ensure the programme meets learners' needs. Some flexibility in delivery times will be required, with the schedule agreed prior to the course start. Be Part of Our Community City Lit is London's largest provider of learning for adults, inspiring over 30,000 students a year and offering more than 5,000 courses, online and face-to-face. As a leader in our field, who have recently been rated as outstanding in all areas by Ofsted, we have a century's reputation for delivering the highest quality student experience. Partnering with community organisations across London, we deliver bespoke projects that support individuals and communities.

  • A qualification and/or equivalent experience in teaching in the subject area
  • Experience of planning, delivering and assessing accredited programmes of learning.
  • Experience of working with a backstage team and onstage performers.
  • Up to date knowledge, professional experience and enthusiasm for the subject that can inspire students.
  • Ability to support students to overcome barriers to learning and inspire them to achieve.
  • Experience of teaching adults (desirable)

Our generous rewards and benefits are numerous and wide-ranging, including flexible working, generous course discounts that include friends and family, our pension scheme plus life assurance and enhanced Family Friendly leave. There's also a season ticket loan programme, entitlement to access the student discounts programme (Totum), cycle to work scheme, and discounted private healthcare and gym. We even offer free annual flu jabs!
