Full Job Description
The Acute Medical Unit provides emergency medical care for patients who are requiring admission under the acute medical physicians within our Trust. AMU/MRATS has recently gone through a very exciting change with the introduction of a triage bay designed to take patients seen in the community and need admission. This has been set up for paramedics to bring patients directly to AMU. Medical Admissions is a 58 bedded unit that cares for a range of acutely ill patients requiring medical investigations and treatment in a fast-paced environment. We are committed to ensuring that every patient experience is of the highest quality. We require nurses who are energetic, forward thinking, flexible, self-motivated and who have care, compassion and courage at the core of their nursing vision. We provide our patients with a true multi-disciplined team that can support our patients in their health needs with our own ward based therapy team. You must be able to work as part of a team and autonomously when required, and be committed to delivering care of a high standard. We work closely with our colleagues in the Emergency Department and on The Same Day Medical Assessment Unit. It is not essential to have worked within emergency medicine to apply for this position as we would welcome all Registered Nurses as we will provide training and support. To provide the highest standard of evidence based / research informed nursing care for all patients. To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care. To supervise and support members of the ward team to ensure that all patients receive the appropriate care. To maintain a compassionate, caring and safe environment for all. To act as an advocate for the patients and their families and or carers, providing them with information and support and directing them to the relevant support services where appropriate. To plan effective discharge from admission, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, other departments and community services as necessary. To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide research informed, evidence based nursing care. This includes expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate competency based training. To be competent and compliant in the administration of medicines in line with Trust policy. To use electronic patient systems i.e. PAS in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.
