Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity for Registered Children's Nurses to develop their assessment and intervention skills within a busy Emergency Department. Due to the development of the service to follow a 24/7 model we are looking for enthusiastic, skilled and committed nurses to join our team.
The post holder will be a part of team of experienced Children's Nurses working at Band 6 level, or working towards Band 6, who will be based with the Family Services Division and provide care to Infants, Children and Young People (ICYP) attending the Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Care Service (UCS) at Scunthorpe and Grimsby Hospitals. Bringing added protection and oversight of the paediatric guidelines and protocols to ensure a high level of care to BCYP accessing emergency care.
The operating hours for this service are currently 07:00 - 19:30 and 10:30 - 23:00 which equate to an 11.5 hour shift with an hour unpaid break, seven days a week. However, we are developing the service model in line with CQC and RCPCH standards to 24/7. This will be done in a two phased approach, this recruitment is the first phase in which we are adding a 19:00 - 19:30 night shift. The second phased will come in the next year - eighteen months moving to a 2 shift profile 07:00 - 19:30 x2 RNC and 19:00 - 07:30 x2 RNC.
Main duties of the job
To be able to perform competently a variety of procedures with a child such as;
Delivering oxygen via a range of systems e.g. nasal cannula, face mask, non invasive ventilation
Monitor continuously oxygen saturation levels and heart rate
ECG's
Blood gases & blood sugars
Urinalysis and pregnancy testing
Urine catheterisations
Cannulation and obtaining phlebotomy samples
Wound closure with local anaesthetic, sutures/tape/wound glue
Application of a splint/cast
To conform to Trust Medicine Management policy ensuring correct recording of stocks and administration
Administer a range of medications via different methods, adhering to safe administration and NMC policy.
To adhere to the Trust Policies and Procedures whilst on duty.
