The department consists of paediatric majors and minors areas, resus and a paediatric clinical assessment unit. The department sees children from new born to 17 years of age. The band 5 nurse will have the opportunity to work in all areas supported by a senior nurse. You will be required to work within a multidisciplinary team including youth workers, health visitors, trauma nurses and safeguarding team., The candidate is responsible for following policies, procedures and standards of KCH. They should identify their learning needs and contribute to other's learning where appropriate., The band 5 nurse would be responsible for an identified group of patients. They will be supported to learn and develop and expected to identify their own learning needs. They should be keen to drive improvement., Clinical Practice

To practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to this at all times
To assess, plan and evaluate individualised programmes of care for patients in partnership with the patient, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team using a family centred approach to care
To assist senior staff with the identification of vulnerable adults and children at risk of abuse
To support and assist in the health education of patients and their families
To ensure care is delivered in accordance with latest evidence based practice guidelines
To ensure that patients and next of kin are informed as appropriate and as consented to by the patient themselves
To maintain up to date and comprehensive records of care in accordance with NMC and legal requirements
To maintain patient confidentiality at all times
To practice within the Unit philosophy
To support junior colleagues, students, and visitors to the department
To know own role within the Trust Major Incident Policy
To ensure that patients and parents/carers are informed as appropriate and consent is obtained according to current policy., To assist in the teaching and practice development of junior colleagues and students
To demonstrate the use of information and research findings to support and promote evidence based practice within the clinical area
To participate in research and audit within the unit
To assist in setting up protocols and guidelines to enhance best practice
To assist in auditing of these protocols and guidelines
To participate in Trust and Care Group initiatives to develop nursing practice
To manage an agreed workload with support from colleagues and senior staff as appropriate
To ensure that all Trust and local policies, protocols and procedures are adhered to by colleagues as appropriate
To work within and support the multi-disciplinary team
To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the Care Group and with associated clinical areas within the Trust
To participate with the monitoring of standards of hygiene and cleanliness on the ward / department and report as appropriate
To share knowledge and skills developed with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
To participate in reflection & / or Clinical Supervision sessions as provided
To observe personal responsibility for resource management
To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and wellbeing of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management associated with this post
To achieve a range of clinical competencies as required within the Trust and Care Group
To maintain your own personal and professional development in accordance with PREP requirements, attending mandatory study sessions as required
To undergo and actively participate in your own performance appraisals
To keep up to date with NMC & Trust guidelines and protocols
To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional conduct working within and accepting responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of competence.

You will be expected to provide high quality care for our children and young people. You will be supported to develop and progress by a team of experienced nurses and a paediatric development nurse. The team is highly motivated and caring., The candidate should adhere at all times to the NMC code of conduct. They should be able to address the needs of the patients in the care with special attention to safeguarding concerns. Education of families and junior staff is an essential aspect of the role.
Paediatric Registered Nurse with Active NMC Registration, Acute experience within a paediatric setting, Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
Proficiency in dispensing and administrating oral & IV medication
