Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our 20-bedded Respiratory Ward at the Princess Royal University Hospital.

As a key member of our nursing team, you will play an active role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals with a range of respiratory conditions.

You will be expected to manage your own patient caseload while supporting both junior and senior colleagues throughout your shifts.

You will uphold the Trust's standards and values at all times, ensuring safe, compassionate and effective care. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will develop competence in discharge planning and will receive supervised training to achieve competency in the care and management of patients requiring chest drains, Optiflow, and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in the care of patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions, including COPD and asthma, as well as those with more complex needs such as non-invasive ventilation (NIV), Optiflow therapy, and chest drains.

Working in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, you will help to ensure safe and effective discharge planning, while consistently upholding the Trust's standards and expectations.

You will also support families and carers during times when patients are critically unwell or approaching the end of life, providing compassionate care.

Clinical skills for this post include venepuncture, cannulation, IV antibiotic administration and male catheterisation. Competence in nasogastric (NG) tube insertion is desirable.

The Trust provides a full range of local and specialist services across its five sites. The trust-wide strategy of Strong Roots, Global Reach is our Vision to be BOLD, Brilliant people, Outstanding care, Leaders in Research, Innovation and Education, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion at the heart of everything we do. By being person-centred, digitally-enabled, and focused on sustainability, we aim to take Team King's to another level.

We are at a pivotal point in our history and we require individuals who are ready to join a highly professional team and make a real, lasting difference to our patients and our people.

King's is committed to delivering Sustainable Healthcare for All via our Green Plan. In line with national Greener NHS ambitions, we have set net zero carbon targets of 2040 for our NHS Carbon Footprint and 2045 for our NHS Carbon Footprint Plus. Everyone's contribution is required in order to meet the goals set out in our Green Plan and we encourage all staff to work responsibly, minimising their contributions to the Trust's carbon emissions, waste and pollution wherever possible.
