Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 nurse (adult branch). This post will involve being highly visible and approachable within the Homerton University Hospital and the Sir Ludwig Guttmann centre which is part of the Homerton Outpatient service. We are currently looking to for Qualified Staff Nurse to join our team of existing staff within the Outpatient services. We deliver clinics and outpatient services across a variety of specialities. Our clinics include Orthopaedic, medicine, surgery plus many more and the successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a large team. It is an exciting opportunity for a flexible, self-motivated nurse who loves a challenge and delivering compassionate care to the highest clinical standards and customer focus to improve the patient experience. You'll be proactive, enthusiastic and above all, a good communicator. You can inspire a diverse, well-established team to always perform at the best. And you'll be able to provide brilliant support through coaching and team meetings, so everyone from therapists to healthcare assistants - grows, learns and develops together. You will understand the importance of patient care and have the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients, recognising the specific needs of patients and relatives. You will co-ordinate the outpatient area and provide direction to junior staff.

  • To deliver a high standard of nursing care.
  • To communicate with families and significant others, involving them in the planning and delivery of care.
  • To manage clinical emergencies as required.
  • To use medical equipment safely and competently and to supervise others in its use.
  • To record and interpret vital signs, and report any deterioration.
  • To deal with enquiries/ complaints from patients and visitors in a courteous, timely manner, informing a senior member of staff, when appropriate of actions taken or when necessary, referring an enquiry to a more appropriate member of staff.
  • To liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To support the sister/charge nurse in achieving ward/dept objectives.
  • To act as an advocate for the nursing team ensuring that clinical decisions are made with appropriate input from the nursing team.
  • To support and facilitate junior staff in their development, contributing to the learning environment by participating in ward teaching programmes.
  • Deliver clinical care to patients as required within set protocols and within the scope of the Nursing Associates practice.
  • Contribute to patient assessment, documenting and escalating when required to the registered nurse and contributing to the plan and deliver high standards of care.
