Full Job Description

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within our Neonatal Unit, you will work as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team delivering safe, high-quality, family-centred care to babies requiring varying levels of neonatal support. You will have the opportunity to develop your neonatal knowledge and clinical skills within a supportive learning environment committed to staff development and ongoing education.,

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to neonates requiring Intensive Care, High Dependency, and Special Care support within the Neonatal Unit.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, compassionate, and family-centred care to babies and their families.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care for neonates in accordance with Trust policies, procedures, and national neonatal standards.
  • Support parents and families by providing emotional support, education, and involvement in the care of their baby.
  • Safely administer medications, intravenous therapy, and nutritional support appropriate to the neonatal setting, following training and competency assessment.
  • Monitor and recognise changes in a baby's clinical condition, escalating concerns appropriately to senior nursing and medical staff.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in admissions, transfers, stabilisation, and discharge planning of neonates as required.
  • Support and contribute to maintaining a safe clinical environment, including infection prevention and control standards.

We are looking for enthusiastic nurses who are passionate about neonatal care, demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills, and are committed to providing compassionate care to babies and their families during a challenging time in their lives.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
  • We have four primary goals:
  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence
  • And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities. Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
  • We are compassionate,
  • We are proud,
  • We are inclusive, and
  • We are one team
  • This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve. About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
