The suitable post holder -
+ Will work on a busy ward caring for post operative patients who have had Orthopaedic surgery
+ Will be required to work closely along side other members of the MDT
+ Will need to be a team player with good organisational skills
+ Will be required to work along side the nursing team but also be able to work independently caring for your own team of patients

On-Call

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Planning and Organisational Duties
The post holder will demonstrate responsibility for:
+ Identifying what is required of oneself and others in delivering individual patient care.
+ Developing personal competencies to safeguard practice and effectiveness in role, ensuring compliance with NMC Code of Conduct.
+ Participation in the effective use of allocated resources/funding.
+ Demonstrating the awareness and participation in development to adapt to the changing needs of the service.
+ Empowering self and colleagues to creatively meet professional and organisational objectives.
+ Responsible in ensuring the effective running of the department in the absence of the departmental sister.
+ To maintain a high standard of evidence-based care by incorporating current trends and ideas.
+ Carry out relevant investigations as ordered by medical personnel.
+ Participate in an extended role in nurse-led clinics on completion of appropriate training.
+ Liaising with other hospital and community services where necessary.
+ Functioning as an independent and supportive team member and as a team leader providing direction/assistance to other team members.
+ Reviewing workload and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
+ Identifying problems and resolving them effectively.
+ Maintaining professional standards in all aspects of care delivery within the department.
+ Organising own time and that of junior staff and learners.
+ Deputise for the Sister.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
In conjunction with senior nursing staff and specialist nurses participate in the setting/monitoring and evaluation of standards of care to patients.
To communicate effectively with all members of multi-disciplinary team regarding patient care.
To assist with the investigation and timely resolution of complaints and PALS enquiries.
Responsibility for Finance
The post holder will:
§ Participate in ensuring the effective use of all financial resources in providing and delivering the service.

§ Demonstrate awareness of the need for cost improvement programmes within the service.
§ Promote effective utilisation of resources.
§ Provide the service within its financial constraints.
Responsibility for Human Resources
The post holder will:
Adhere and promote Trust policies, procedures and guidelines and maintain the Professional Code of Conduct.
Ensure compliance with the Mandatory Training Policy in accordance with the Trust's Policy.
Responsibility for Health & Safety
Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 - the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
Responsibility for Teaching
The post holder will promote lifelong learning through the use of appropriate coaching, teaching and assessment in practice by:
§ Facilitating a supportive learning environment that enables all members of the team to develop.
§ Recognising the effective utilisation of all appropriate development resources and opportunities.
§ Recognising and responding to a range of objectives and standards necessary to assure a supportive learning environment.
§ Promote the ethos of continuous improvement disseminating any new knowledge gained to other colleagues.
§ Any other duties appropriate to the grade.
Within the WWL Trust is Wrightington Hospital which has been classed as a "centre of excellence" in the treatment of orthopaedic conditions
An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward B at Wrightington Hospital for a Staff Nurse. This post is 24 hours per week , worked over 7 days based on a rota pattern, 12 hour shifts internal rotation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated staff nurse to join our team. You will be working on our state of the art ward and will become an expert in the field of orthopaedic nursing.
