Full Job Description
The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. MMU Sport is looking for a Sports Photographer to produce photos to be used for social media, our website and print. This role comes with plenty of opportunities to capture some of the 30+ clubs at Manchester Met, our free sports and fitness offering as well as some ad hoc events. Event to be covered may include:
- BUCS fixtures
- Active Campus - our free sports and fitness sessions
- Zone Out - our joint department wellbeing event
- BUCS Nationals - a weekend competition involving more of our individual sports such as athletics and swimming.
- Manchester Varsity - our annual multi-sport competition against University of Manchester
- The Manchester 10K Majority of BUCS fixtures take place on a Wednesday, so we would be looking for someone who can broadly commit to that day. We will liaise with you on a weekly basis to discuss times and locations depending on our requirements and your availability. On occasion, we may have events taking place later in the evening or across a weekend. In these cases, dates and times will be communicated well in advance. Please Note: You must have/ provide your own camera and equipment to work the events Photos are expected to be uploaded to Flickr the following day to allow us to post onto socials promptly. A login for our account will be provided. This contract is for Term 1 starting from the week commencing 22 September and ending week commencing 8 December (There is possibility for this contract to be extended for the entire academic year if both parties are happy with the role)., Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to supporting the rights, responsibilities, dignity, health and wellbeing of staff and students through our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent photography skills (provable by portfolio)
- A solid understanding of lighting for photography
- Good communication skills - able to collaborate with others. General/Specialist Knowledge
- Proficient in photography editing software (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop)., Experience working within/with a sports organisation or club either as a volunteer, paid employee or freelancer.
- Experience with photographing live events - in particular sport
- Experience with studio photography for headshots (such as for Varsity Media Day)., A passion for sports and storytelling through visual media
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends (as arranged in advance).
- Proactive with a strong work ethic and willingness to go the extra mile
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing conditions quickly
- Self-sufficient and able to work to a brief without direct supervision
- Organised and able to work to short deadlines
- Willing to work outdoors on occasion, even in potentially adverse weather.
