Full Job Description
Have you ever wanted to work with children and young people supporting them to develop their communication skills?
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with experience in childcare or education to work within our team, providing direct support to children and young people with specific speech language and communication needs (SLCN). This will involve providing therapy in Dell Language Unit (based within Dell Primary School) with the ongoing support of a Band 7 Speech and Language therapist. You will be fully trained in a range of interventions.
With a strong ethos of clinical support and supervision, our dynamic team provides evidence-based advice, training and interventions to children, young people, and their families. We also provide advice, support, and training to other professionals to support the system around the child as part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency service., The post holder will be responsible for assisting the speech and language therapists in their clinical and administrative work, including data entry. The post holder will implement intervention programmes. This work will be managed rather than supervised. The client group is children who have difficulties in understanding and/or using speech and language.
Clinical Duties:
To implement speech and language therapy packages with children and make modifications as necessary for child or circumstances, using knowledge and understanding of children's development and disorders and other learning disabilities.
To assist in the planning of routine activities. This includes children of pre-school and school age on the community caseload in location.
To assist SLTs in running groups as required.
To monitor the children's progress and assess their progress in response to treatment.
To make observations about children's communication skills and responses to activities and use initiative to change intervention in order to assist in assessment and therapy. The speech and language therapist will be available by phone to discuss changes to therapy packages.
To contribute to administrative duties connected with the caseload including updating children's case records, following service standards.Provide verbal and written feedback to the supervising therapist, other professionals and carers regarding an individual patient's response to therapy and progress made.
