Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join the SLT team within the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Services.

The postholder will work within specialist inpatient neurorehabilitation, based at St George's Hospital. The successful post holder will share our commitment to excellence and ensuring high standards of evidence based practice. They will be interested in developing skills in adult acquired disorders, and will have an integral role in providing communication and swallowing assessment and treatment to patients.

The successful post holder will be supported in their initial development, progressing to independent management of a caseload. The successful post holder will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver goal focused neurorehabilitation.

They will receive regular clinical supervision and support to develop specialist clinical skills. They will be joining a highly proficient, professional, patient centred and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Team offering excellent support and well established CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, management and treatment of their own caseload of patient/clients with communication and/or swallowing impairment as a result of neurological conditions.

The post holder will be expected to work with initial support moving to independent working. A significant proportion of these patients/clients will have English as an additional language (EAL).

He/She will be expected to work as a member of a team providing an efficient and effective service, liaising with internal and external agencies.

The post holder will also work within the multi-disciplinary team providing co-ordinated individualised management and/or treatment for patients/clients, involving families as necessary and providing appropriate recommendations and training to multi-disciplinary team members.

The post holder will participate in continuing professional development and other activities to maintain evidence based best practice.

The post holder will also assist with the work of student placements, guidance for speech therapy assistants and colleagues.

The post holder may work across a range of sites and specialties within the St. George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as directed by the Chief Therapist and AHP Lea
