Full Job Description

This post will be based in Exeter and will be part of the highly supportive Exeter and Okehampton S< Team, delivering a community speech and language therapy service to children and young people within clinic and education settings.

This provides a real sense of professional collaboration at work, that will be an asset to your daily work, your career development and your support network., The Communication and Interaction pathway consists of Speech and Language Therapists working across Devon and Torbay.
The aim of the team is to ensure that specialist support is easily accessible within the community settings, providing both direct support to children, young people and families, and to the wider community teams.
Everyone in the team is provided with regular supervision, opportunities for training and development
To independently manage, with access to support from more senior colleagues and the team, a caseload of children and young people in the Exeter area with developmental disorders of speech, language and communication.
The provision of a speech and language therapy service of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders of speech, language and communication.
To provide appropriate intervention and evaluate outcomes.
To provide advice to parents and carers, early years and school staff and other professionals on matters relating to the speech, language and communication needs of individual children and young people.
To set up and monitor programmes to be carried out by other key workers.
To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge.

Children/young people and families and carers will frequently have difficulty accepting the information provided.
To develop and demonstrate negotiation skills in the management of conflict across a range of situations e.g. differences in professional opinion, differing views within families, with the support from colleagues as needed.
To form productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties.
To employ good presentation skills to promote multi-disciplinary and interagency liaison and collaborative practice to a broad range of audiences including other professionals and users
To write reports reflecting knowledge of children that can be accessible to both lay and professional people.
