Full Job Description

This post provides some senior medical input to the 13 bedded older adult ward (Laurel) with a view to rapid assessment and treatment of severe mental disorders and with the specialist Care Home Liaison team whose goal is to support people living in care homes primarily with dementia to try and support crises and prevent avoidable admission to hospital., Clinical Duties:

  • Conduct initial psychiatric assessments, mental state examinations, and risk assessments for newly admitted patients.
  • Formulate treatment plans in collaboration with consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in board rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and case discussions.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, ensuring adherence to NICE guidelines.
  • Manage medical emergencies and liaise with general medical teams as required.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
  • Work closely with consultants, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and social workers to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with families, carers, and external agencies involved in patient care.
  • Participate in discharge planning and liaise with community mental health teams to ensure continuity of care., Opportunity to supervise and teach medical students and junior colleagues.
  • To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
  • Participate in audit, qualityimprovement projects, and service development initiatives where appropriate.

    Applicants must have at least 4 years experience in psychiatry post-graduation. They should have evidence of good communication skills and a commitment to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.
