Full Job Description
Are you ready to shape the future of stroke services through research and clinical excellence? We are offering an exciting opportunity for an innovative Specialty Doctor to join our dedicated stroke medical team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. This permanent role involves working across both Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
You will work alongside our experienced consultants and resident doctors to deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient stroke care.
We are deeply committed to research and innovation. You will have the opportunity to contribute to and lead both local and multicentre research projects. Our team is engaged in pioneering studies focused on pre-hospital and hospital stroke care, as well as the use of point-of-care ultrasound. We are proud to be one of only 19 European Centres participating in the SECRETO study (Search for Explanation for Cryptogenic Stroke in the Young), which has had significant clinical and research impact.
This role offers a high degree of autonomy, a collaborative team environment, and excellent opportunities for professional growth.
Whether you are looking to expand your research portfolio or take the next step in your clinical career, this is the place for you!, The post is anticipated to include 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week. However, we are open to negotiating elements of the job plan to best support the evolving needs of clinical service delivery and the wider department.
You will play an integral role in delivering high-quality stroke care, supported by a dedicated team of four stroke consultants and a well-established multidisciplinary team. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Providing timely stroke thrombolysis and managing acute stroke referrals
- Conducting regular ward rounds and participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings under consultant supervision, as per the internal rota
- Running and supporting Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) clinics and inpatient assessments
- Participating in a 1:4 twilight on-call rota (2pm-10pm), including weekends, to ensure continuous thrombolysis coverage and expert response to stroke referrals
In addition to clinical responsibilities, you will actively contribute to the department's research portfolio, including ongoing and future research programmes. You will also engage in service development initiatives aligned with national stroke targets and locally commissioned service improvements. Your involvement in innovation and evidence-based practice will be key to driving the quality and efficiency of stroke services across both hospital sites.
We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our workforce and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, with a special focus on welcoming individuals from disabled, Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, as well as those from our local area.
In line with our dedication to employee support, we offer a variety of benefits. For more information, please see the attached staff benefits leaflet.
We strive to create a supportive and inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and empowered to excel in their roles. Join us and become part of a team dedicated to making a positive difference in our community.
