Full Job Description
This is a locum post for 12 months. The post-holder will join a well-established multidisciplinary team, providing a comprehensive paediatric rheumatology and chronic pain service for the Thames Valley and surrounding region. The appointee will have the opportunity to work closely with consultants and allied professionals from the Children's Hospital Oxford, as well as a number of other DGH's throughout the region. There are close links with the adult rheumatology service. The appointee will also be part of the regional Chronic Pain service providing a comprehensive out-patient and intensive day case service to young people and families from across the region and beyond., Applications are invited from candidates with appropriate training and experience for the post of Locum Specialty doctor in Paediatric Rheumatology at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, primarily working at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre for outpatient-based care. Inpatient and acute care is provided with support from paediatric services at the Oxford Children's Hospital based at the John Radcliffe Hospital., This is a locum post for 12 months. This role is ideally suited for a senior trainee who has completed their CCT, or is within six months of CCT, or for a clinical fellow aiming to gain experience equivalent to the Consultant level.The post-holder will join the current consultant team of Paediatric Rheumatology consultants, and a well-established clinical team working in the key areas of Paediatric Rheumatology and Chronic Pain.
We are looking for innovative and enthusiastic candidates with appropriate clinical and leadership abilities. This role is ideally suited for a senior trainee who has completed their CCT, or is within six months of CCT, or for a clinical fellow aiming to gain experience equivalent to the Consultant level. The post holder will be fully supported by a busy and friendly department and will be encouraged to take part in research and academic development. Close links to the University of Oxford provide an excellent opportunity to develop research interests in a variety of areas., Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCT in paediatrics (or equivalent) at the time of commencing the appointment and have had appropriate experience within a dedicated paediatric rheumatology unit. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work pro-rata full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.,
- Full GMC with licence to practice
- MBChB or equivalent
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- On the GMC's Specialist Register (or equivalent such as SPIN module certificate) OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview
- Certificate of completion of training (CCT) or equivalent in paediatrics
- Completion of competencies for sub-specialty training in paediatric rheumatology OR equivalent such as SPIN module training
- APLS, BLS or equivalent in date
- Trained to level 3 or equivalent safeguarding Desirable criteria
- Higher medical degree e.g. MSc, PhD or MD or evidence of working towards a higher academic degree
- Tertiary or supra-tertiary level training in paediatric chronic pain
- Tertiary level training in adolescent and transitional care
- Management qualification, Comprehensive training in Paediatrics and all aspects of paediatric rheumatology for at least 2 years in a tertiary paediatric rheumatology centre
- Experience working in adolescent transition and young adult services
- Experience in managing patients with Chronic Pain
- Experience with independent intra articular steroid injections, both under local and general anaesthetic
- Prescribing of complex medication
- Experience of managing complex patients requiring multi-specialty input and intensive care
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems. Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in additional tertiary paediatric rheumatology centres
- Experience of working within an established clinical network
- Work experience in one of the major paediatric pain centres
- Experience of joint assessment and injection with ultrasound, Evidence of leadership in clinical and management setting
- Effective administrative and time management skills. Experience in clinical management.
- Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork and service improvement.
- Good spoken and written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Able to communicate well with children, parents and teams.
- Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training
- Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
- Participation in clinical research
- GCP or equivalent training
- Experience recruiting and contributing to research studies Desirable criteria
- Leadership experience in regional or national project.
- Leadership qualification
- Evidence of additional management responsibilities
- Teaching or Education qualification
- Presentations at national and international meetings.
- Peer reviewed publications Research grants
- CSG /NIHR activity/experience, Working Pattern: Ability to work until 7pm on Tuesdays for adolescent clinic, Transport - Ability to travel to outreach centres, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
