Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Critical Care, Anaesthetics and Specialist Surgery Care Group; in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department the successful applicant will work between the sites of William Harvey Hospital, Kent & Canterbury Hospital and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital.
You will work as part of a team with the existing 7 Consultants and other staff within the department.
The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly within this team structure and participate in a 1:6 2nd on call rota.
You must have full registration with the General Dental Council and be in possession of Bachelor of Dental Surgery, or equivalent and preferably a postgraduate qualification e.g. FDS, MFDS, MJDF. In addition, you will be expected to have experience at SHO or DCT level in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and be competent in Minor Oral Surgery.
This is a Speciality Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial post, whole time, based at William Harvey Hospital, but with split duties at Kent & Canterbury Hospital. On-call duties will be at the William Harvey Hospital which is the Kent Centre for oral and maxillofacial surgery serving a population of 720,000.
The Oral and Maxillofacial department is accommodated in modern premises and the Unit provides a comprehensive service for medical and surgical problems involving the mouth, jaws, face, neck and supporting structures. It provides a service for maxillofacial trauma, head and neck oncology and its reconstruction, facial deformity, temporomandibular joint surgery, implantology dentoalveolar surgery. The Unit has an active interest in undergraduate and postgraduate education and is involved in clinical research. Particular interest has been taken in supporting the development of all staff and good links and exchanges of trainees from other countries have been developed as a result.
The Unit works in close co-operation with its other medical and dental colleagues.
This post is up to a maximum of 12 sessions inclusive of 2nd on call on a 1:6 rota with Speciality Registrars and other Speciality Doctors. The appointee will also normally be expected to have MJDF, MFDS, or FDS., We are a pioneering Trust, on an exciting journey of healthcare transformation, with award-winning research and innovation, and a strong team ethos.
