Emergency Medicine in East Kent Hospitals is at an excitingperiod of redevelopment, having attracted national investmentto rebuild both Emergency Departments at William HarveyHospital, Ashford and Queen Elizabeth the Queen MotherHospital, Margate.

Our Emergency Departments provide innovative and fastpaced integrated emergency care to a wide range of patientsfrom East Kent. It is our inspiration to develop into anacademic and research unit in emergency medicine for Kent.The Emergency Departments, one at the William HarveyHospital (WHH), Ashford and the other at the Queen Elizabeththe Queen Mother Hospital (QEQMH), Margate, each offer afull 24 hour emergency service. The Emergency Departmentsare supported by co-located Urgent Treatment Centres, a 24hour UTC at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital with a further 7community UTCs in the region

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality care to patients including clinicalleadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the ED.

To be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring that the Emergency Access Standards are adhered to, ensuring thatwe deliver safe, high quality care.

Patient safety, dignity and care are the highest priority and at the centre of all that we do. Whilst on duty in the department the ED consultant will provide highly visible and focussed clinical leadership - working in conjunction with the nurse in charge of the shift and the SpR/specialty doctor lead to ensure that there is effective and timely communication between the clinical team maintaining optimal patient flow.

To be proactive in the Care Group's clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies ofthe Trust. To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address issues arising that affect the services., support for study, quality improvement and patient safety work as part of our 'We care' improvement journey, and medical education and research.

Critical Care in East Kent Hospitals is at an exciting period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment to deliver a critical care hub for Kent and Medway. A new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit is being built at the Willian Harvey Hospital, to include bespoke training facilities, including dedicated space for in-situ simulation training.
