Full Job Description
The successful candidate will be expected to provide preoperative assessment, perioperative and postoperative care to patients across both sites of this busy Teaching Hospital Trust. This will require some ability to work independently although Consultant cover is always available. The successful candidate will be expected to provide anaesthesia for the broad range of surgical specialties on site. This includes General surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Ophthalmology and Gynaecology. In addition, we provide anaesthesia for Hepato-Biliary, Vascular, and Major Head & Neck services. The on-call commitment will be on a 1:11 basis (non-prospective) and is based at Burnley General Hospital. This site provides emergency services for Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is covered by a two tier rota with distant consultant supervision. The post holder will be resident and will support the trainee rota by providing emergency gynaecology services alongside support for the obstetric unit. The theatre sessions will be flexible in site and specialty according to negotiation and the requirements of the service. This is indicative and subject to change as the service demands. There may also be changes associated with "NHS Services, Seven Days a Week".
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor post in Anaesthesia. Applications are invited from suitably qualified doctors with extensive experience in obstetric anaesthesia., Applicants will hold full registration with GMC and they will hold extensive experience in obstetric anaesthesia. Applicants must possess the following skills:
- Ability to communicate with patients and relatives effectively and with empathy.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and staff in all disciplines to facilitate best patient care.
- Ability to work in a team and evidence of such, MBChB or equivalent
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- Up to date revalidation Desirable criteria
- Primary FRCA
- Educational Qualification, Satisfactory completion of core training or equivalent in Anaesthesia and ICM, Experience at specialty trainee level, Substantial experience in general anaesthesia including practical experience in regional anaesthesia and invasive line insertion, with use of ultrasound.
- Extensive experience in obstetric anaesthesia
- Understanding of and experience in performing audit
- An understanding of the need for quality in health care and how this is evidenced
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk management. Desirable criteria
- Evidence of participation in audit that lead to introduction of change
- Evidence of involvement in quality improvement projects
- Experience in appraisal and mentoring, Clear commitment to lifelong learning
- Experience of evidence based medicine
- Ability to keep up to date in the speciality Desirable criteria
- Membership of appropriate post graduate societies., Ability to communicate with patients and relatives effectively and with empathy.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and staff in all disciplines to facilitate best patient care.
- Ability to work in a team and evidence of such Desirable criteria
- Evidence of development of leadership within the work environment
- IT skills and ability to use range of programs and software, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
