Full Job Description
The post offered is that of a part-time Specialty Doctor in Older Adult Psychiatry, working within the Barnet Memory Service. This is a new and additional post within Older Adult Community Services division. It is a great opportunity to gain a great deal of experience and knowledge working in Older Adult Psychiatry. It has arisen due to maternity leave. The service provides assessments to individuals with cognitive and functioning decline in outpatient setting based at Barnet General Hospital., The post is full-time for 5 Programmed Activities (PA): 4.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 0.5 Supported Professional Actitivies (SPA). The post holder will be supported by two Consultant Psychiatrists working within the Memory Clinic, as well as a team and service manager., o Provide memory assessments and treatment plans for patients under the memory serviceo Provide leadership and clinical advice to colleagues within the memory serviceo Provide treatment based on knowledge of the evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, in accordance with NICE and relevant guidelineso Ensure effective and timely documentation on electronic patient notes (RiO)o Provide support in formulating treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary teamo Ensure the review and care of patients physical health through liaison with other agencies including the patients GP and general hospital services. o Promote mental health and independence for all peopleo Provide clinical and professional leadership in the serviceo Provide support to carers and relatives of people, including them wherever possible and in care planso Facilitate access to a range of community orientated services to those who may need themo Liaise effectively with other Trust services and external partner agencies in the best interests of patientso Provide a service of the highest quality, within the limits of our resourceso Support non-medical colleagues in working independentlyo Take part in management activities related to the post, or the wider service within which it is embedded.o Comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. MHA (1983) and MCA (2005)o Commit to ensuring fair access to services for allo Comply with procedures on reporting concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues
- Primary Medical Degree
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date.
- Section 12 Approved or eligibility for it., MRCPsych (or equivalent)
- Section 12 MHA Approved
- Additional degree or equivalent, Evidence of achievement of CT1 1-3 or equivalent competencies in psychiatry at time of application
- Training and clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis and management of older adults with cognitive impairment
- Experience with older adult psychiatry and with working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Safeguarding Procedures, Experience in general medicine
- Experience in teaching with ability to use a wide range of teaching techniques and audio-visual aids
- Evidence of audit/QI experience, Excellent clinical skills
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
- Familiarity with a wide range of theoretical and clinical approaches.
- Ability to provide medical leadership to the multi-disciplinary team and to function as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team, Clear thoughts on how to involve service users in service development and to provide a service which is experienced as being "service-user friendly"
- Practical experience in a short term psychological therapy

£63,696 to £102,689 a year Plus £2,162 of London Zone Weighting per year
