Full Job Description
The Dermatology team is a forward thinking innovative one which has had national recognition for its innovative service redesign and pioneering Tele Dermatology service. We were involved with the first wave pilot for the Getting it right first time (GIRFT) project following which we were commended on our good practice.
Dr De Silva has a specialist interest in Paediatric Dermatology and does Paediatric clinics at Luton. We have a diverse ethnic population with a higher than average rate of inherited disorders. In addition, the Trust has a tertiary level NICU so the paediatric Dermatology case mix is varied and challenging. We are an allergy centre and Dr De Silva does a combined allergy clinic with the paediatricians which allows same session skin prick testing for children with severe eczema and food allergy and review by the dieticians when needed.
One stop rapid access clinics allows immediate diagnosis and same day treatment of urgent suspected cancer (USC). In addition, we have a web based Tele Dermatology consultant led triage service for lesions. There is a weekly Dermatopathology review meeting and a combined clinic for complex cases takes place monthly on site.
A Local skin cancer MDT clinic takes place weekly. There are dedicated cancer follow up clinics and surveillance clinics for immunosuppressed patients with Skin cancer specialist nurse support. There is also a weekly SSMDT meeting.

He/she will be expected to attend the Local and Supraspecialist Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team meetings as appropriate.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest in line with the Departmental policy to expand its range of specialist services.
The post holder will be expected to work with the local managers, general practitioners and other medical and professional clinical colleagues in the efficient running of the service.
