Full Job Description

We are a small but proactive 'acute' speech and language therapy team, and this role will primarily be involved in provision of assessment and management to our Stroke HASU and ASU. The service has a weekly videofluoroscopy clinic and access to FEES as needed. We are currently involved in the PHEAST trial so you will be trained in the elements involved in this research project, with the potential to use Phagenesis if funding has been secured for patients outside of the trial., To provide highly specialist assessment, therapy and advice to clients with a range of acquired disorders of communication/swallowing who are admitted to the HASU/ASU in-patient (Stroke) ward at BTUH.

Support the service in management of the general acute ward population during times of reduced capacity, where prioritised above Stroke caseload

Co-ordinate the provision of SLT intervention across this service, in the absence of a more senior staff member.

Provide highly specialist knowledge, advice, training and teaching to carers, students, SLT team, medical staff and members of relevant MDT's

Support more junior staff within the acute SLT service.

You will provide therapy care plans to be carried out by a Speech and Language Therapy Assistants while retaining overall responsibility for the clients

Provide written reports and undertake appropriate liaison with medical staff, families, voluntary organisations.

We would expect you to be an experienced SALT, who is independantly able to manage a stroke caseload including the management of patients with dysphagia. Experience of complex dysphagia, including management of patients with tracheostomy would be an advantage. If you have completed videofluoroscopy /FEES compentencies we would invite you to be part of the provision of these services to our patients.
