Full Job Description

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our team within the borough of Brent. The post is based across the Robertson Unit and Furness ward at Willesden Centre for Health and Care. In this role, you will provide swallowing and communication assessment, management and intervention for adults with varying neurological conditions.

You will work across: Robertson Rehabilitation Unit - a specialist level 2b neuro-rehabilitation service which admits patients with a wide range of diagnoses including stroke, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and critical illness neuropathies. Furness ward - a general rehabilitation service for those patients who no longer require acute medical care but require further therapeutic intervention prior to discharge home.

You will be part of a supportive and collaborative Brent SLT team, with access to structured supervision and support. The role involves close partnership working with the wider multi-disciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses and Medical Professionals.

This role offers a range of opportunities for professional development, including involvement in service development, research, audit, and quality improvement projects. A comprehensive supervision framework is in place, including one-to-one supervision, peer support, and regular appraisal.

Main duties of the job

This role requires experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions. You will bring a strong interest in delivering high-quality, person-centred care within a multidisciplinary environment.

The role places a strong emphasis on collaborative working, including shared goal setting, assessment, and intervention to support positive patient outcomes. There will be opportunities to contribute to Speech and Language Therapy-specific and wider MDT service development, quality improvement initiatives, and your own continuing professional development.

Key Duties include:o Independently manage and prioritise a complex neurological caseload, assessing and treating communication and swallowing difficulties using evidence-based practice, with support from a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist as required.o Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.o Support the supervision and development of a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapisto Actively contribute to service development, innovation, and quality improvement activities across the service.
