Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

This post is fixed term/secondment is for 24 months from start date and is a service development opportunity, due to funding.

Due to external funding we are delighted to be able to offer a fixed term opportunity to work as part of the innovative Head and Neck Cancer Speech and Language Therapy Team (SLT) in CTMUHB.

You will play a key role in an exciting new service development project implementing and evaluating late effects dysphagia provision. This will involve working with key stakeholders from primary and secondary care to ensure seamless care. Your skills will be utilised to develop resources to support referrers and also to support patient self-management.

There will also be opportunities to deliver elements of care along the cancer pathway from prehabilitation through to survivorship with the opportunity to develop skills in objective dysphagia assessment (VFSS) and Surgical voice Restoration (SVR).

The Head and Neck Cancer SLT team is a well established, experienced team and you will receive an excellent robust professional supervision programme. The service is embedded within the Head and Neck Cancer MDT with close working relationships, with a significant number of clinics being joint clinics with CNS and dietetic/MDT colleagues.

Main duties of the job

To work with the Clinical Lead/Senior Management Team to ensure the provision of a high-quality service for Head and Neck Cancer services for adults with communication and swallowing problems resulting from their head and neck cancer diagnosis and/or treatment.

To provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties in in-patient, out-patient and community settings with close MDT working, often working jointly with dietetic and CNS colleagues.

To contribute to clinical teams both multi-disciplinary and uni-disciplinary by discussing own and others input around clients' needs ensuring a well-co-ordinated care plan.

You will be managed by the clinical lead of this service.

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to use Welsh in routine workplace situations, such as greeting customers, answering calls, responding to routine enquiries, providing information, arranging appointments and taking messages.
