Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and dynamic Speech and Language Therapy Team, working on the acute wards at The Royal Oldham Hospital, rotating into the dedicated critical care Speech and Language Therapy Team and participating in the weekly videofluoroscopy clinic and our out-patient service.

The successful post holder will join the existing team of 8 Speech and Language Therapists (6.77wte) and 2 Assistants (0.97wte) who between them cover acute medicine and surgery, critical care, neonatal intensive care, acute paediatrics, out-patients, videofluoroscopy and FEES, providing excellent opportunities for shared learning and experience. There is the expectation that the post holder will participate in the delivery of the many teaching programmes we provide to colleagues, as well as supporting our student SLTs on placement.

The team actively participate in clinical supervision both formally and informally and there is a regular journal club providing extra opportunities for CPD.

1. To be a specialist speech and language therapist in the field of adult acquired communication / swallowing disorders.

2. To act as an autonomous practitioner with specialist knowledge, skills and experience, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients on the caseload.

3. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of one's professional and clinical work, working to agreed national and professional standards.

4. To plan, deliver and evaluate clinical audit, research activities and in-service training within specialist area.

The post will involve work on acute wards in a variety of medical / surgical areas including critical care, radiology and out-patients.
