Full Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Pharmacy member of staff to take the next step in their career and become a Specialist SATO Clinical Governance for Furness General Hospital and absence cover for the other sites., We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Band 4 Governance Specialist Senior Assistant Technical Officer to support medicines governance, patient safety and high-quality service delivery within the Pharmacy Department. This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills and a passion for improving medicines management across the Trust. You will work closely with, and report to, the Audit Senior Pharmacy Technician.
Key duties include completing safe and secure medicines management audits, supporting governance actions, and contributing to audit reports. You will promote effective risk management, ensure incidents are reported in line with Trust policy, and assist with investigations by gathering evidence and completing documentation.
The role also involves stock management, resolving discrepancies, supporting IVIG submissions, and maintaining robust stock control systems. You will provide dispensary support when required and may undertake Final Accuracy Checking if accredited.
Strong communication skills, excellent organisation, accuracy, and the ability to prioritise and work independently are essential, along with contributing positively to the wider governance team.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
Applicants must have excellent communication and computer skills, have completed their NVQ 2 -Pharmacy services and BTEC level 2 in pharmaceutical sciences or have an equivalent level qualification.
