Full Job Description
The successful applicant will:
- Deliver MSK physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, and management
- Contribute to service development, training, and innovation
- Supervise and mentor band 5 physiotherapists and students
- Undertake audit and research to evaluate service impact
- Support the operational management of MSK outpatient services
- Champion patient-centred care, shared decision-making, and effective communication
- Deliver rehabilitation through one to one and group formats, Candidates must demonstrate excellent clinical reasoning and a commitment to professional development., Please refer to the attachedJD and PS for a full outline of the duties, responsibilities, and essential criteria for this post.
oDegree or equivalent in physiotherapy - oHCPC registration. Desirable
- oCurrent CPD within musculoskeletal speciality and physiotherapy profession. Clinical knowledge and skills Essential
- oSystematic assessment of common musculoskeletal conditions including spinal and peripheral presentations with sound clinical reasoning based on the biopsychosocial model and formulation of primary hypothesis with consideration of differential diagnosis.
- oAble to competently assess for sinister or non-MSK diagnosis and evidence escalation/action as required using local pathways and national guidance.
- oDevelop holistic, patient centred management plans that incorporate shared decision making and appropriate signposting/referrals for support with psychological or social factors
- oSkilled delivery of exercise prescription for the management of musculoskeletal conditions in 1:1 and class settings with available resources and knowledge of behaviour change techniques
- oAble to demonstrate adaptive written, verbal and non-verbal communication with patients at all stages of their care including the communication of complex concepts i.e. persistent pain
- oCompetent at manual techniques including orthopaedic testing, general handling, and manual therapy with awareness current evidence-based practice
- oUnderstands the principles of adjuncts such as (TENS, shockwave therapy, orthotics) and its application to the management of musculoskeletal conditions Desirable
- oTriage musculoskeletal referrals appropriately to outpatient physiotherapy and secondary care services.
- oAssess and treat more specialist referrals such as major trauma, shockwave, hands/plastics, pelvic health and patients with complex conditions.
- oTraining in communication techniques such as motivational interviewing or psychologically informed collaborative conversations (PIC-C). Experience Essential
- oPost registration clinical experience in core specialities at band 5 (or equivalent) level including musculoskeletal outpatients.
- oOutpatient management of musculoskeletal conditions including persistent pain, referred from GP and secondary care i.e., orthopaedics, rheumatology, pain clinic.
- oProviding treatment to patients from diverse backgrounds and ensuring where possible, equity in treatment. Desirable
- oPrevious experience at band 6 (or equivalent) level in relevant clinical speciality.
- oPrevious experience of working in an NHS setting or equivalent.
- oDeputise for team lead where needed in meetings and management of operational tasks i.e. sickness reporting. Non-clinical knowledge and skills Essential
- oCan present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner to staff.
- oWork effectively in a team, motivating self and others including excellent communication,
- oOrganisation, prioritisation, time management and delegation to manage your own caseload and support others.
- oWork within a busy outpatient setting that can be stressful and unpredictable at times with implementation of appropriate management strategies for own well-being and timely escalation of concerns.
- oManage emotional or aggressive patients and carers with appropriate action and escalation Desirable
- oAudit process, research skills i.e. critical appraisal and implementation of quality improvement projects (QIP) using standard models.
- oGood computer skills including word, excel and power point.
- oDelivery of teaching to all staff and the MDT
- oSupervision of junior staff, students and support workers with experience of appraisals and supporting performance management, oBehaviours aligned to the trust's values (Kind, Caring, Excellent and Responsible) and work flexibly responding to the needs of the service
- oPractice within the HCPC standards of proficiency, CPD and conduct, performance and ethics including ability to keep accurate and legal documentation in English.
- oCompliant with trust policies including no smoking, dress code, data protection and manual handling guidelines.
