Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and capable pharmacist to join our Cancer Pharmacy Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT). The role is fixed term to cover a vacancy that has arisen from maternity leave. ICHNT is the cancer centre for North West London, and manages both local and nationally referred patients with a variety of different cancers. ICHNT offers a fully multi-disciplinary approach and the successful applicant will work closely with our extended cancer teams. The post holder will be an important part of the Cancer Pharmacy Team; managing patients with oncology diagnoses, on a variety of chemotherapy regimens. This is in addition to managing disease complications, therapeutic drug based complications and working with our palliative care team to give patients the best care. Responsibilities will include the provision of a clinical ward pharmacy service and support to clinicians and other health care professionals. The postholder will verify systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) prescriptions and ensure that prior SACT funding approvals are checked for accuracy. There may also be opportunities to work in the outpatient clinics, undertake audit work and support trainee pharmacists on rotation.Previous cancer experience is desirable but an interest in cancer and supporting cancer patients is essential.,

  • To support the Lead Pharmacists for Cancer in the participation & development of clinical and directorate pharmacy services to cancer
  • To provide a clinical ward pharmacy service to the cancer wards
  • To ensure the safe, clinically effective & cost efficient use of medicines within cancer
  • To improve the quality of pharmaceutical care to patients.
  • To gain knowledge & experience in the management of cancer
  • To verify systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) prescriptions
  • To gain experience of the funding and monitoring of high cost cancer drugs
  • To support & develop trainee pharmacists, Band 6 pharmacists & medicines management pharmacy technicians as appropriate
