Full Job Description

Our Therapy Department has an excellent post specialising in ortho trauma and frailty, which is available on a permanent basis. This post supports our quality improvement agenda to improve the service provision for older adults living with frailty, especially those patients who have a fracture. If you are an ambitious Occupational Therapist who wants to actively support this change agenda, then this role is for you.

This role is shared between the Inpatient Trauma & Orthopaedic service and the Acute Assessment and frailty team supporting older adults with frailty. A primary role of this post will be to upskill and develop the Trauma & Orthopaedic service in the management of older adults with frailty, across the whole MDT, and support to embed a process of frailty identification and Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA) on the frailty and orthopedic wards., To provide advanced Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions. With a specific focus on frailty and frail patients post orthopaedic trauma.

To be responsible for own case load, split between frailty and Trauma & Orthopaedics. Working without direct supervision but with daily senior support as required.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and integrate working practices with community partners in order to facilitate timely discharge and admission avoidance.

To train and develop staff and students.

To undertake evidence based audit to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to Manager / Team Leader regarding changes to practice and/or service policies and protocols.

To represent therapies as a visible, knowledgeable, confident, supportive and high performing professional group.

Previous experience as a Band 6 or 5 Occupational Therapist is essential. An ability to demonstrate a proactive flexible approach and to be able to work well on own initiative is essential.
