Specialist Lead Midwife for Prison and Detained settings

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. TheLead Specialist Midwife for Prison and detained settings willensure current multidisciplinary pathways of care are fully developed and embedded within midwifery and prison services to facilitate a collaborative approach to care. The post holder will be responsible for leading a small team of specialist midwives in providing continuity of care for women in the prison service and providing support and care for women within other detained settings such as police custody. The lead midwife will ensure that the care provided is aligned with national guidance and the 8 principles of care for pregnant women in detained settings. They will provide a vital link between the multi-agency care provision and facilitate a collaborative, joined up care approach between the prison service, police, probation, prison healthcare, hospital, safeguarding and social services. They will have the specialist knowledge of supporting maternity care within a detained setting. Closing date of applications: Interview date:

• Ensure evidence-based care planning for the patient group, including reproductive healthcare. Maintain effective communication within HMPPS standards and the Trust, promoting openness and trust. Support the team in delivering clinical patient care.
Lead audits supporting effective management, staffing, quality improvement and service evaluation. Lead the development and evaluation of policies, guidelines and SOPs for the specialist care and monitoring of pregnant women in prison and detained settings. Lead and develop maternity clinics within HMP/YOI Foston Hall and provide clinical expertise. Contribute to clinical effectiveness and governance, including incident management, investigations, learning, improvement, risk management and complaints. Ensure effective multidisciplinary communication and care planning for pregnant women, including admissions, releases and ongoing care. Ensure referral pathways with external agencies, including HMPPS Mental Health, PPG, Social Care, Substance Misuse, Safeguarding and other hospital trusts. Plan and manage own and service workload flexibly to meet patient needs, acknowledging and mitigating health inequalities. Promote, implement and evaluate sustainable service improvements.
