Specialist Healthcare Scientist - Radiation Imaging

o Radiation Protection Adviser in diagnostic and interventional radiology, working with other specialist radiation advisers to provide effective highly specialised scientific and technical advice to NHS Trusts and other sites.

o Act as the scientific lead for the areas of environmental monitoring, IRR17 audits and the provision of advice on radiation risk assessments and local rules.

o Work within the Radiation Science Services team to provide a quality assurance service for radiation imaging and associated equipment.

o Specify and evaluate new diagnostic x-ray equipment for procurement.

o Provide education and training for medical physics and other staff.

o Encourage, instigate and participate in research and development projects and clinical audit.

We're looking for a Radiation Protection Adviser in diagnostic Radiology to join our friendly team at UHBW. This is a Band 8a Specialist Healthcare Scientist role, with the option of a Band 7 linked-progression post for candidates working towards RPA certification.

Based at Bristol Royal Infirmary, the Radiation Science Services team provides RPA, MPE and Physics services to a wide range of diagnostic and interventional departments, within two large NHS Trusts, three breast screening services and several private and academic sites. We provide an extensive personal dosimetry service, and support departments using artificial optical radiation sources. You will be joining two RPAs in a team of fifteen scientists, technologists and trainees. The role involves travel to partner sites and is part of the wider Diagnostic Medical Physics Group, which also covers nuclear medicine, MRI and ultrasound.

Our team is actively involved in training across STP, PTP, HSST, and FRCR programmes, and we support the training of a wide range of healthcare professionals.

We encourage further study and research, including HSST, PhD and post-doctoral opportunities, and support innovation and clinical trials.
