Full Job Description

The post holder is expected to provide treatment under inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and general anaesthesia. The post has an important role in supporting teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and StRs. The post holder will help to foster good relationships between the Dental Hospital and General Dental Practitioners, Community Dental Service and Primary Care Trusts and other health care providers. The post-holder will participate in, and where required, lead departmental quality improvement projects. All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.

The post holder is expected to have a high level of knowledge and expertise in the field of Special Care Dentistry and should have an innovative approach to teaching, and patient care.,

  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Inclusion on the GDC Specialist List in Special Care Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment)
  • Membership in Special Care Dentistry or equivalent
  • Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate sedation qualification
  • Research degree or equivalent, Possession of a certificate of accreditation or eligibility for CCST in Special Care Dentistry (or within 6 months of attainment).
  • Successful completion of a SAC approved 3 year training programme in Special Care Dentistry
  • Competence in behaviour management techniques and inhalation & intravenous sedation
  • Experience of delivering care under general anaesthesia.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate level
  • Experience of teaching at postgraduate level, Evidence of active participation in clinical audit/service evaluations/quality improvement programmes
  • Willingness to play a part in audit programmes at Trust and Regional level.

  • Ability to participate as part of a clinical teaching team., You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

    This is post for a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry (1.0 WTE). The appointment is with the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is based at Liverpool University Dental Hospital. The post holder will be expected to work under the line management of the Clinical Director and Divisional Medical Director. The postholder will be expected to engage in their own continuing professional development and to provide continuing dental education for other staff. The post holder will help to foster good relationships between the Dental Hospital and General Dental Practitioners, Community Dental Service and Primary Care Trusts and other health care providers. The post has an important role in supporting teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students and StRs. The appointee will be engaged in teaching and training of dentists and DCPs in training., Note: Under current Home Office Immigration Rules we are currently unable to offer right to work visa sponsorship for Band 2 and 3 roles with a salary of less than £25,000 pa as they do not meet the UK Visas & Immigration criteria.
